The Tablet Frozen in Time

A Mysterious Morning

For 12-year-old Arda, life consisted of three things: online games, reaching the highest score, and the yellow stars on his bedroom ceiling. That morning, he woke up early, rubbed his eyes, and reached for his tablet on his bedside table, just like every other day. However, the moment he touched the screen, something strange happened. A purple light beamed from the tablet's screen into the middle of the room. The light slowly grew and turned into a huge hourglass floating in the air, covered in ancient writings.

Arda jumped out of bed in shock. Just then, a mechanical voice echoed from inside the hourglass:

"Arda, you are only consuming time, but you never produce it. From now on, every second you look at the screen will be stolen from your real life. Your mission is to find the balance between the virtual world and the real world."

The Trap in the Screen

At first, Arda thought this was a game update or a prank. He put on his headphones and opened his favorite strategy game. The game was so exciting that he didn't realize how time flew by. A few hours later, he heard his mother’s voice: "Arda! Come on, son, dinner is ready!"

When Arda lifted his head from the screen, he couldn't believe his eyes. The morning sunlight that had filled his room was long gone; it was pitch black outside. But that wasn’t the scariest part. When he looked in the mirror, he noticed silver-white strands in the front of his hair! The hourglass was right; the moment he buried himself in the screen, his real life had passed by at lightning speed, and he had aged without living at all. He hadn't even realized that his friend Berk had come to the door to play basketball, or that his mother had baked his favorite cake. All of it had vanished among those magical pixels behind the screen.

The Power of Balance

Terrified, Arda immediately left the tablet on the desk. The next day at school, he focused on his friends, his teacher's jokes, and the smell of the trees in the garden with great attention for the first time. When he returned home in the evening, he wanted to log into the game again, but this time he remembered the warning of the hourglass.

He made a plan for himself: He would study for an hour, read a book for half an hour, chat with his family for an hour, and play on his tablet for only 45 minutes. He set his timer and started the game. When his time was up, even though he really wanted to keep playing, he clicked the "Close" button and left the tablet on the desk. At that moment, a purple light flashed in the room again. The floating hourglass slowly melted and went back into the tablet. Arda ran to the mirror and saw that the white strands in his hair were gone, and he was back to normal. He was no longer the slave of time, but its master.

What Did We Learn from This Story?

This story teaches us that technology, games, or social media are not completely harmful; the real danger is not being able to manage our time. Life is not just made of digital screens. The time we spend with our friends, the conversations we have with our family, and the beauties we see in nature are real. Instead of putting technology at the center of our lives, we should use it as a tool and always keep the balance between the real world and the virtual world.
