The House of Contentment

✨ The House of Contentment

Once upon a time, there lived an old couple. They were very poor. The husband would leave home every morning to work. Every day, his wife would look at a house on the mountain opposite, which shone brightly and sparkled.

In the evening, when her husband came home, she would say: "Husband, there is a house on that mountain across from us. It shines so brightly; maybe its doors and windows are all made of gold. The light blinds my eyes!"

The husband would tell his wife: "We also have a house. Why don't you be satisfied with it?"

Although the husband was bothered by his wife constantly talking about that house every evening, the wife would not listen to her husband and insisted on talking about the beauty of the house on the mountain.

One day, the husband could not take it anymore and said to his wife: "Go and look at that house up close, if you want."

Her husband's offer excited the wife; in fact, the woman could not sleep that night from excitement. Early in the morning, she ran up the mountain to see the house she admired.

She walked and walked. When she arrived next to the house, what did she see? The house was nothing like it appeared from afar! It was a ruined, dilapidated house with broken doors and windows. There was a world of difference between the house in her mind and the house she faced.

Although this disappointed her, she said to herself: "My house is more beautiful than this one."

Just then, she saw another house shining brightly on the mountain across from her. This house was absolutely radiating light. The woman, amazed by the house's brightness, wanted to go to that one this time: "Surely its doors and windows are made of gold! I should go to that one," she thought.

She ran towards the mountain excitedly. When she reached the top of the mountain, she was astonished! Because the house that was shining so brightly, like the sun, from afar turned out to be her own house!

In that moment, she understood the value of what she possessed. She realized that not everything is as it appears. She finally appreciated what she had. Sometimes the value of what you hold is only understood in its absence. She realized that happiness does not belong to those who always want the best, but to those who know how to be content with what they have.

From that day on, she lived a happy life, content with what she possessed.

Sometimes the value of what you hold is only understood in its absence.
